Our history

Sensitively nurturing the exceptional and magical terroir of Le Clos Sainte Marie to develop a wine in our own image by is a real-life adventure for us.

Bringing organic farming techniques and our signature approach of modernity and accessibility to this modest 2.5-hectare estate in the heart of Châteauneuf-Du-Pape: this is the challenge that drives us daily as we seek to pleasure your senses.

Respect for both the terroir and for winemaking methods are values that are dear to us, and this is reflected in our philosophical approach to our wine. We deliberately limit production to 6,000 bottles to ensure that we can truly express the beauty of the Clos terroir.

We grow Grenache, the emblematic grape of the Southern Rhône Valley. The soil type, hard limestone and flint, brings freshness and balance that are in total harmony with our approach to wine.

Elegance, finesse, boldness and accessibility make this a unique wine, to be enjoyed in its youth or, for the more patient among us, to be given a good place in our cellars.

It is with great pleasure that our estate, located in the middle of Le Clos, between the vineyards and chateau, welcomes you to visit by appointment to taste this and the other wines from the Sénograf collection.

CLOS SAINTE-MARIE

AOP Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2019

Le Clos Sainte-Marie is a small 2.5-hectare estate located to the west of the town of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyard sits on a unique terroir consisting of hard limestone and flint, with a clay subsoil resting on marlstone dating from the Cretaceous period. The vines are around sixty years old, with the exception of those on our Le Clos plot, which are approaching a century. It is this magnificent symbiosis between the old vines and mineral-rich that ground that gives our Le Clos wine such special freshness and elegance.

Grape variety:

100% Grenache Noir.

Vinification:

Harvested by hand, in small crates. Total destemming and crushing. No intervention by the winemaker – indigenous yeasts. Fermentation in concrete vats, with regular pumping over.

Maceration for 3 weeks, followed by pressing. Ageing 4/5 in concrete vats, 1/5 in demi-muids (600 litres oak barrels).

Tasting:

Ruby red colour. Intense nose, fresh red fruits on the palate, with spicy blackberries and roses. Fruit and liquorice in the mouth, nicely balanced with fine and elegant tannins. A long and fruity finish.

Best served:

Between 15 ° and 17 ° C

Food pairing:

Good quality red meat – grilled, rare and young. After a few years ageing, with meats served in sauce.

Ideal with a beautiful leg of lamb flavoured with the herbs of the garrigue.
